Auger Mining: Proven Recovery in Tight Conditions
When terrain, seam depth, or project economics make other methods impractical, CCU’s auger mining capability delivers reliable coal extraction with a smaller operational footprint.

Auger Mining in Ohio
Auger mining is a cost-effective solution for recovering coal from seams exposed along a highwall where full surface or highwall mining isn’t feasible. Large-diameter augers bore horizontally into the coal seam, extracting coal without requiring significant additional overburden removal — making it an efficient option at the right sites and conditions.
CCU has deployed auger mining as both a primary extraction method and as a complement to other mining operations, maximizing total site recovery and project economics for our clients.
